Walking - the best way to experience the Shannon Region

Walking 270x180 .jpg
Walking is truly the best way to experience the beauty of the Shannon Region. A network of quiet country roads and lanes, forest paths and mountain trails will take you to the heart of the beautiful, rural countryside.

The waymarked trails provide something for everyone. Some, such as the Ballyhoura Way and the Slieve Felim Way offer spectacular sea views while the Ballyhoura Way and the Slieve Felim Way go through mountain ranges known to few Irish people, let alone tourists.

The East Clare Way brings you through the stunning scenery of the East Clare Lakelands. Most of the mountains have gentle slopes and are ideal for quiet relaxation. Guided walking tours can also be arranged at centres throughout the region.

Besides the waymarked trails – which ensure you have right of way – there are endless tracks on mountains, by sea, lake and river and through forests,  perfect for those who prefer to map out their own journey. Imagine peace and tranquility far from the pressures of modern life. It’s just a step away.

Tour Limerick city by foot, enjoy a walking tour which is based on the locations featured in Angela's Ashes, the Pulitzer Prize-winning book by Frank McCourt that tells the gritty story of an impoverished Limerick boyhood in the 30's and 40's for full details click here.
